I’m not sure why I was reading the article about Cher’s last tour. She’s been in various media lately, including an appearance on Oprah with Tina Turner and a Final Jeopardy! triple-stumper.
The only thing more surprising than the fact that Cher’s three-year farewell tour has its own Wikipedia entry is that the entry was apparently written by a three-year-old. The sentence quoted above is easily the worst sentence I’ve ever read on Wikipedia, and I guess it’s not surprising that it probably comes from a hardcore Cher fan. The line is tricky because it seems like a sentence, but halfway through it collapses into meaninglessness, a vortex forms in one’s mind and time stops. It’s difficult to even reconstruct what the writer meant by the statement–apparently, something is different about the show after the speech, but it’s hard to tell because, as the author affirms, it is different from the rest of the show because it is the same.
The encylopedic tone, when applied by everyday people to really banal and uninteresting things, results in the occasional eruption of absurdity. Thank you, Wikipedia. «»
